Corfu is an island off Greece’s northwest coast in the Ionian sea. It was a place I knew nothing about prior to my trip in 2014. The only reason we decided upon Corfu was the incredibly cheap flights (all about that budget travel!). With no expectations, I was blown away by what Corfu had to offer, or more so, what Paleokastritsa had to offer. I could talk and talk about this trip, but we shall leave that to another time. This post is all about praising the magnificent accommodation we found last-minute – Elysium Apartments. It was so hectic I can’t even remember what website it was. Either way we found it and thank god we did!

Pre Trip

I find the most important thing when not booking through a site like (use this link and you’ll save £15!) or trivago is the communication with the owners. And I am happy to report I have absolutely no complaints about Des and Gemma. After e-mailing back and forth they were happy to arrange a return taxi to and from the airport for us at the cost of 99 Euros. As we would have been traveling across the island, 99 Euros split between the two of us was pretty good.

Des came out to greet us as the taxi dropped us off and carried our bags up the driveway (which is very steep followed by about 80 steps so this accommodation is not advisable for anyone with mobility problems!).

The Room

Elysium Apartments consists of three Studio Apartments and one Luxury Apartment. We went with the studio which was nice and simple. Double bed, kitchenette and bathroom. Two of the Studio Apartments directly face the sea and share a balcony divided by mature plants. The third (ours) is round the back of the property with its own balcony and a sea view to the side. The Luxury Apartment is 80m and occupies the entire ground floor.

The rooms are also equipped with mosquito nets on the doors and windows to keep the critters out. Along with lots of information brochures on Paleokstritsa. You will never be at a loss of what to do.

Perfect Location

Elysium Apartments is located on the northwest coast of Paleokastritsa with lots of lovely restaraunts, cafes and bars near by. You will never find yourself having to walk too far for anything.

Perks of the Stay

As it is such a trek to get up and down the 80 steps to Elysium Apartments, Des and Gemma have taken that into consideration and offer water for purchase at 50¢ per large bottle.. WiFi is also available if required. So of course we took advantage of both!

The Garden!

Another one of the perks is the garden, but it deserves its own mention. The garden is shared with the other guest staying at Elysium Apartments, but there is more than enough sun loungers and chairs to go around! Also, the panoramic views (as you’ve seen above) are absolutely breathtaking. To end every day chilling on the loungers, admiring the ocean was perfect.

Elysium Apartments

I have nothing but good things to say about Elysium Apartments. Therefore if and when I go back to Paleokastritsa I will most definitely be staying there. It was so above and beyond what I expected it to be! I never thought your could get a view like without pay ridiculous money! At £35  night for 2 people it was incredible!  Click here to visit their website  or their Home Away Listing if you are interested. And to be honest, I don’t know why you wouldn’t be! Perfectly perfect in every way.

  1. The garden looks heavenly! I’ve heard of Corfu, but these are the first photos I’ve seen of it. Hmm, maybe I will need to look into flights. looks lovely!

  2. I’m so bummed I didn’t get to see Corfu on my trip to Greece. You’ve done an incredible job writing an accommodation review here, normally I find them incredibly boring but I wanted to read on here. This place is so charming. At least you were getting a good workout with the 80 steps. I can only imaging the altitude made for great views

  3. I needed to find a place in Corfu next year so this comes at a perfect time! I’m definitely checking it out. Thank you! Love having you on #FlyAwayFriday!

  4. Lovely apartment! Pinned! 🙂 I think I need a vacation like this, a wonderful hotel, a great view and nothing but relaxation! #WanderfulWednesdays

  5. What a pretty place! I’ve been to other parts of Greece, and all the islands are so pretty. And very affordable. What a lovely looking trip.

  6. I made it to Corfou when I was on a cruise two years ago and didn’t really like it. It seems I was mistaken, you definitely make it sound as a truly great destination! And this place you found last minutes sounds amazing! Especially the gardens!!

  7. I love smaller places like this because the communication with the hosts/owners is always really helpful. I feel like you end up having a place to stay and people you can chat with for a cultural exchange. The idea or having a small seaside apartment for a few days (with all those perks!) is mighty tempting……. (goes and looks up flights to Greece lol)
