Have you ever see those amazing sky line shots of New York City and just thought, if that was my view I would die? Well for a week, that was my view. I didn’t die, but it definitely felt like heaven! I’ve been to NYC twice now and it still remains one of my favourite places in the world. During my visit I stayed at the Intercontinental Times Square, which was in the prime location considering that the reason for the trip was to see as many Broadway shows as my bank account would allow. As the hotel is located in the Theatre District, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
Location of The Intercontinental Times Square
The name is a lie! It’s not actually in Times Square. It’s on the corner of West 44th Street and 8th Avenue – which is only a block away. One of my favourite things about its location? The Shake Shack just next door! Before my trip I had never heard of Shake Shack, but my life has been changed. Those milkshakes were worth the queues out the door! An entrance to the 42nd street Port Authority Subway Station is also right outside so even if you wanted to venture way from the busy Times Square area, it’s easily done.
Our room was on the 20th floor so the view we got was pretty spectacular. The window was facing right down 8th Avenue which made for some amazing photo opportunities. It was a beautiful day when we arrived and the sun was beginning to set. The reflection off all the mirrored skyscrapers was stunning! Though I will say, even 20 floors up, you could still hear the traffic and the sirens. Not too loud though that it kept you up at night. And I guess it’s New York. What did I expect?

We stayed in a Standard Twin Room at the Intercontinental Times Square, which came with 2 double beds, work station, 42″ HDTV (with normal channels or Pay Per View films available to watch) and an iPod Docking Station. The bathroom had an amazing walk-in rain shower as well as a full length mirror – which we all know if vital for those last minute outfit checks! I honestly cannot fault the room at all. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and waking up to that view every morning was a dream come true.
(Tip: At check in I was told that if I was a IHG member – it’s free – we would get complimentary WiFi in the room. Otherwise we would be charged for the room WiFi but have access to free WiFi in the lobby. I signed up at the check in desk in about 1 minute so I would definitely recommend doing that. Or if you are already an IHG member – Perfect!)
All Round Experience
So I’m not going to lie, the Intercontinental Times Square is probably the fanciest hotel I’ve stayed at, but it was incredible! The staff were so nice and friendly and ready to help with anything you needed. The room was beyond amazing (though I didn’t dare touch the minibar) The view is what takes the cake for me though. After a week of staying in such luxury, I was so sad to say goodbye to this place.
It’s not just Broadway that’s close by. It’s smack bang right in the middle of Manhattan, and with the subway stop right out side the city is your oyster! I honestly cannot recommend it enough!

Disclaimer: The Intercontinental Times Square hosted me during my stay on media rates, which was very nice of them. As always though, all opinions are my own.
